The anatomy of a Dubai Hills garden

The average Dubai Hills villa is a blank canvas. As we will be spending more time than ever in our homes this year, here is everything you need to know about designing the perfect garden, specifically suited to your taste.

POOLS

Pools go beyond being the perfect way to spend a summer afternoon. They enhance your garden’s ambiance and boost the overall value of your house.

Pools aren’t just for swimming in

For those of you that aren’t avid swimmers, consider accessorising your garden with a plunge pool or ornamental pools. Larger gardens can be taken up a notch with extravagant infinity or overflow pools.

Your pool is an optical illusion

How your pool makes you feel depends on the tile color you go with. Looking to make it seem deeper than it actually is? Opt for a dark tile. Looking to make it seem wider than it is? Opt for a light tile. Looking to make it seem longer than it is? Get creative with the gradient of your tiles.

A pool that’s a cut (of tile) above the rest

If you’ve attended more garden and pool parties than you can count, you’ve probably also lost count of the number of blue-tiled pools you’ve seen. The last thing Dubai Hills needs is yet another pool with blue ceramic tiling.

Give your pool a unique edge by opting for larger cuts of glass tiles, natural stone, or porcelain. Be discerning with the material you choose, and ensure it complements the size of your pool and its overall aesthetic.

LAWN

What was once an open expanse of land became the center of a homeowner’s pride in medieval Europe. That’s how the art of “the lawn” came about. You can choose to have a lawn that’s either a traditionally manicured open space or a themed portal into another world.

Natural versus artificial

Both teams have their pros and cons.

Natural lawns need even more maintenance in the desert. They demand constant maintenance and irrigation, which could weigh down on your water bills. However, with the right care, a natural lawn is a hassle-free addition to your home. To thrive, all it needs is the right irrigation system and the green-thumbed talent of a professional landscape maintenance company.

On the other hand, artificial lawns need to be chosen carefully.

They need great attention-to-detail when being laid out, and opting for a higher quality of artificial grass will make it look natural.

Thickness

Natural grass is a flexible option. You can trim it up or trim it down as it grows. The downside of this is the constant maintenance. Artificial grass is ideal for the person that knows what they like and sticks to it. 35 millimeters is the perfect length to opt for as it resembles fresh cut grass

Your artificial grass is also an optical illusion

Hours of work goes into designing artificial grass. Specialized artificial grass is an array of natural textures, shades, and hues of green. This makes it look as natural as possible. Most people don’t realize that artificial grass has shreds of brown hair implanted in them to resemble twigs in natural grass.

Making your mind up between a natural or artificial lawn also depends on size. For an expansive outdoor space, natural grass looks better. For smaller patches dotting your outdoor space, artificial grass wins.

Themes that make the great outdoors “great”

Our team at Fiona Environs decide on a theme by assessing the local climate, ambiance, place, and of course, the client’s preference and personality.

Popular themes in the GCC include tropical, desert, Mediterranean, abstract, sustainable, and Japanese. Themes are also decided based on the resources available and the client’s budget. Our team is always at the ready to think outside the box and come up with creative solutions; applied innovatively.
